Many people in German politics are afraid of this new unknown party called Pirate Party. Rick Falkvinge - founder of that Pirate movements some years ago - explained some days ago the reason for success of that party during current TED talks in London.
It is a question of freedom of speech and access to the internet. Younger people are only demanding the same rights we already have in the offline world since 100 years. Nobody would propose to make lists with the names of all the people who sent another person a traditional letter. Why do some politicans made this proposal for emails? Why should the government have the right to scann and register all the homepages a user is visiting? This will be reality in the UK in the future. Maybe there is no huge protests because most people just don´t understand the consequences of that measurement?
